About Us

French for people with real lives

Balkan Programs started from a simple observation: most adults who give up on French do not lack motivation. They give up because the course in front of them assumes a classroom, a fixed timetable, or an app that rewards streaks rather than understanding.

So we built a course around the time people actually have — fifteen minutes before work, a lunch break, the train home — and around the French they actually need: ordering, asking, explaining, chatting, and understanding the reply.

How we teach

Every lesson follows the same rhythm: a real situation, the words and grammar it needs, a short dialogue, then practice with answers you can check yourself. Grammar is explained in plain English, with the rule, the pattern and the mistakes English speakers usually make.

We build steadily through the European CEFR levels, so each lesson leans on the one before it instead of throwing everything at you at once.

Why written lessons

Video is easy to watch and easy to forget. A written lesson can be read at your own speed, re-read on the train, annotated, printed and kept on the kitchen table. When you get stuck, the answer is on the page instead of somewhere in minute twelve of a recording.

What we believe

  • Little and often beats long and rare. Fifteen minutes a day is a real plan.
  • Plain language. If a grammar point needs a glossary, it is badly explained.
  • Useful before perfect. We teach the French you will use first and the exceptions later.
  • Honest expectations. Nobody becomes fluent in a month, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Who we are

Balkan Programs is an independent publisher of digital self-study programmes, based in Détrier, Savoie, France. We are part of a small family of Balkan Programs sites publishing structured, practical learning material.
